Licorice, the little black sheep
„Hello children - I’m Mrs.Green. Guess what’s my favorite color? “
Green - shouted the children. Pupils from classes two till four were the audience of a cozy little theatre play performed by Cornelia Unrauh from the allerhand-Theater.
The children experienced a mixture of puppet theatre and play. Due to the lovingly chosen stage properties the children payed attention to the story of the little sheep named Licorice. Because of its black wool the lamb didn’t fit in the flock but as the story ran its course Licorice found the way into the flock and also in the heart of the audience.
The language was easy to understand due to simple vocabulary and a clear sentence structure.
All in all it was a very special English lesson and the children liked it a lot and experienced that they have already learned some English.
And myself: as an English teacher I was very pleased that our pupils had the chance to enjoy English outside the classroom. Especially storytelling is a good brain friendly learning method which should be part of comprehensive language teaching anyway.
